Georgios Theodorou Zoras

Georgios Theodorou Zoras (Greek Γεώργιος Θεοδώρου Ζώρας, born December 28, 1908 in Pyrgos , Elis ; † June 13, 1982 in Athens ) was a Greek lawyer and neo-Greekist.

Life

Zoras was the son of a Greek field doctor and an Italian contessa from Siena . He studied in Italy jurisprudence and in 1931 with a dissertation on the Byzantine law from the Law Faculty of the University of Rome doctorate. In the same year he was offered a chair for modern Greek language and literature at the same university, a position he held until the outbreak of the Second World War and the Italian declaration of war in 1940 and again from 1956 to 1979. In 1942 he had meanwhile been appointed to the second chair in Medieval and Modern Greek Philology at the University of Athens . He held this position until 1968.

Zoras was mainly concerned with Andreas Kalvos . He dedicated smaller works to Marinos Phalieros and Georg von Trapezunt . He was also the editor of the quarterly magazine Παρνασσός (Περιοδικὸν σύγγραμμα κατὰ τριμηνίαν ἐκδιδόμενον. Athens 1959ff.).
