The Georgskirche is in Kirchweyhe - a district of Uelzen - and is the church of the parish Kirch- / Westerweyhe in the parish of Uelzen of the Evangelical Lutheran regional church of Hanover .

history

There must have been a church in Kirchweyhe before 1297. It is mentioned in the Ebstorf Certificate No. 64. In 1834 the old church had to be demolished. They and the free-standing tower were dilapidated. The builder of today's classical Georgskirche is the church builder Ludwig Hellner from Hanover . In 1856, by which it was organ builder Altendorf, Hannover, delivered organ inaugurated.

In 2003, the church could be painted again as Hellner had intended (sign near the entrance). At the same time, the two names of the “owners” of the seats were uncovered in the second row of banks. Ms. Schulz was seated at 176, and Ms. Hinrichs at 177. The regional bishop Margot Käßmann consecrated the previously unnamed St. George's Church on June 29, 2003.

Furnishing

The altar wall (with pulpit), the windows and the coffered ceiling are u. a. typical for this classical style. The large glass window above the pulpit was donated by the court owner Hinrichs (1915), the font from the Geffert family (1958). The community had a relief until 1874 (carving from the workshop of master Hans Brüggemann , Walsrode around 1500). There has been a picture of the work of art kept in the State Museum since 2005. The organ built by Friedrich Altendorf is now back in its original condition after a restoration by the Hillebrand brothers . With seven registers (manual) and a range of C, D – f '' 'and three registers (pedal) it has a range of C to C' and a total of 545 pipes (3 cm to 2.50 m).

The four classicist ring chandeliers (12 arms, 120 cm) were installed in 1996. The altar candlesticks are a small part of the Vasa sacra .

Two bells hang in the bell tower . The bell tower cannot be climbed easily. They were purchased in 1851, with 850 kg and the strike tone f sharp, and in 1967, with 450 kg and the strike tone a '.

The parish

The parish was looked after by the St. Marienkirche Uelzen for centuries. She only became self-employed 50 years ago. To the west of the church you can see the former sexton and school house. Now it is the parsonage with the parish office and community room.

In 1974 a parish hall on the Haubenlerche was inaugurated in the Westerweyhe district. The services alternate here. The Kirchweyher cemetery with chapel is located in the south of the village above Bachstrasse. In Westerweyhe there has been another cemetery with a chapel since 1925, which is the property of the city of Uelzen.
