The Georgsmarienhütte group of companies ( GMH Group ) consists of 26 companies (as of 12th 2017) under the umbrella of Georgsmarienhütte Holding GmbH , based in the town of Georgsmarienhütte south of Osnabrück, which is named after the steelworks . The Georgsmarienhütte Holding GmbH was founded in 1997 by the then managing partner of the steel mill Georgsmarienhuette GmbH , Juergen Grossmann founded, and now includes companies in the scrap recycling , steel production and processing, forging technology , Cast and service . In 2017 the group generated sales of 1.97 billion euros with around 7,000 employees.

history

In April 1993, Jürgen Großmann acquired the former Klöckner Edelstahl GmbH in Georgsmarienhütte near Osnabrück and formed from it the independent, medium-sized steel company Georgsmarienhütte GmbH . Two years later, with the purchase of two recycling companies in Osnabrück and a steelworks in Austria, as well as a majority stake in a heat treatment company in Osnabrück, he laid the foundation for what would later become the Georgsmarienhütte group of companies. From now on, Großmann expanded his group of companies through further acquisitions.

In 1997 - the group comprised ten companies - Georgsmarienhütte Holding GmbH was finally founded as an umbrella company over the independent company. Großmann acted as sole shareholder and managing director of the holding. In 2003 the management was expanded to four managing directors. At the end of 2006, Jürgen Großmann handed over the chairmanship of the Georgsmarienhütte Holding GmbH to his colleague Peter van Hüllen. Frank Koch has been CEO since January 1, 2017.

In 2012, the group of companies generated sales of 2,862 million euros and had 10,506 employees. In the 2013 financial year it had sales of 2.71 billion euros. The loss was attributed to special write-offs. 10,766 people were employed. Of these, 380 permanent employees and around 100 temporary workers worked for WeserWind GmbH in Bremerhaven. 260 employees of WeserWind GmbH were put on short-time work in April 2014 , in late summer 2014 130 employees (equivalent to around a third of the workforce in production and administration at WeserWind) were laid off. The construction of transformer platforms was given up, but attempts should be made to occupy other business areas such as the construction of heavy crane bridges. WeserWind filed for bankruptcy in January 2015.

In 2016, a restructuring began with the aim of concentrating in the future on the core business of steel production and processing as well as forging and casting technology. In November 2016, it was announced that Gegenbauer Holding SE & Co. KG , Berlin, would take over 90% of the shares in RGM Holding GmbH previously held by Georgsmarienhütte Holding GmbH with retroactive effect from January 1, 2016. In November 2016 it was also announced that the GMH Group is separating from the Railway Technology division. The sale to a Chinese investor group led by Full Hill Enterprises should be completed by the end of 2016. The background to the insolvency proceedings opened in July 2016 for IAG MAGNUM GmbH and their closure at the end of 2016 is the separation of loss-making business areas.

At the end of 2018, the group still comprised 27 medium-sized companies from Germany, Austria, Turkey, Australia and the USA. All group companies are independent companies with business and operational responsibility. They are grouped into five business areas:

  • Steelmaking
  • Steel processing
  • Steering technology
  • Forging technology
  • molding
