Gerald Bennett

Gerald Bennett (* 1942 in New Jersey ) is an American composer .

Life

Bennett studied composition with Robert Moevs at Harvard University and with Klaus Huber at the Basel Music Academy .

Then he was a lecturer in music theory at the Basel Conservatory. He helped set up the IRCAM in Paris and was head of department for acoustic and psychoacoustic research there from 1976 to 1981 . He developed the computer language CHANT with Xavier Rodet . From 1981 to 2007 he was a teacher for composition and music theory at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK, formerly University of Music and Theater (HMT), formerly Winterthur University of Music Zurich (MWZ), formerly Zurich Conservatory and Music University). He is co-founder of the Confédération Internationale de la Musique Electroacoustique of UNESCO and the Swiss Center for Computer Music . In 2005 he founded the ICST (Institute for Computer Music and Sound Technology) with Daniel Fueter, which is a research institute of the Music Department of the ZHdK. Since 1993 he has been a member of the International Electroacoustic Music Academy. His works are published by Tre Media music publishers .
