Gerald Martens (* 1966 or 1967 ) is an Austrian basketball official and entrepreneur .

career

Martens worked for 15 years as a board member responsible for strategy development and organization at Ring International Holding AG (RIH) , which is particularly active in the area of ​​paints and office supplies, and managed the Viennese company, which took over and restructured numerous European companies, with his older brother Ralph and Ralph Leo Lanckohr. After RIH took over Helios in 2014, Martens and his group also supported the Helios-financed basketball club Košarkarskega kluba Helios in Domžale, Slovenia . In 2016 Martens left Ring International Holding AG.

He is the founder of the international basketball league Alpe Adria Cup (AAC), which started playing in 2015. In March 2019 Martens was elected President of the Austrian Basketball Association. The goals of his presidency include the reintegration of the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga into the association, increased public awareness of Austrian basketball, exploiting the potential of basketball in Austria and strengthening the basketball variant " 3-on-3 ". On July 1, 2019, the league operations of the top Austrian division under Martens' direction were taken over by the Austrian Basketball Association and a new contract was signed with the television broadcaster Sky, which provided for additional direct broadcasts of league games, among other things.
