Gerald Schwierske

Gerald Schwierske (born September 15, 1950 in Kyritz ; †) was a German football player. In the 1970s he played for the East Berlin police club BFC Dynamo in the GDR Oberliga , the top division of GDR football . He was a multiple junior national player.

Athletic career

Schwierske's football career began with the school sports community in the northern Brandenburg village of Demerthin . When he was appointed to the squad of the GDR junior national team in 1967 , he was already playing for BFC Dynamo. For the junior team, Schwierske played 16 international matches in 1967 and 1968, in which he scored eight goals. At the 1969 UEFA youth tournament, he won the silver medal with the team. His first point games in the GDR-wide game operations he completed in the 1969/70 season with the 2nd team of the BFC in the second-rate GDR league, where it was used six times. In the following seasons too, Schwierske was mostly called up at BFC II. In the 114 GDR league games played between 1969/70 and 1974/75, he was used 90 times and scored 34 goals. His six goals in 1972/73 made him the top scorer of the second team. In the GDR Oberliga he played 19 games between 1970 and 1974, in which he came to nine goals. He was in the starting XI twelve times, where he was used both in midfield and in attack. Schwierske played his most successful league season in 1973/74. He started it on matchday three with a hat trick, ended up with eight appearances and five goals. Nevertheless, he played again only in the 2nd team in 1974/75 and was then dismissed from the BFC. He was given to the Dynamo branch SG Dynamo Fürstenwalde , where he played 21 of 22 GDR league games in the 1975/76 season and was Fürstenwalder's top scorer with twelve goals. For the 1976/77 season Schwierske joined the SG Dynamo Süd Berlin and ended his career in higher-class football. There he had played 19 league games and scored nine goals. In the GDR league, he was used in 111 games and had 46 goals. With Dynamo Süd he initially played in the fourth-class district class, but rose with the team at the end of the season in the Berlin district league . After a short interlude at SG Hohenschönhausen , he joined the East Berlin district class representative SG Dynamo Lichtenberg in the spring of 1979. With him he also rose to the district league in 1980 and finally ended his football career in 1982.
