Gerard Abraham van Rijnberk
Gérard Abraham van Rijnberk (born August 15, 1874 in Gouda , † September 30, 1953 in Blaricum ) was a professor of physiology at the University of Amsterdam .
Life
He was the son of an ophthalmologist from Amsterdam . Because of his poor health, he was sent to Italy by his parents, where he attended high school in San Remo . From 1894 to 1900 he studied medicine in Rome . On November 4, 1900, he received his doctorate and became a doctor of medicine, but did not practice as a doctor. In 1909 he got a chair in physiology at the University of Amsterdam and at the same time became the director of the physiological laboratory.
For many years he was editor -in- chief of the Nederlandsch Tijdschrift voor Geneeskunde , which expanded into the Vereniging Nederlands (ch) Tijdschrift voor Geneeskunde during his tenure . He enjoyed a high reputation in medicine and published a variety of articles on the medical curriculum in the first half of the 20th century. He represented a broadly based academic claim in medicine that should be true to the old ideals. On the other hand, he advocated modern forms of teaching in which the students should organize their learning process independently. He co-founded the journal Archives Néerlandaises de Physiologie et de Phonétique expérimentale , which appeared between 1918 and 1947. In 1926 he was accepted into the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina .
