Gerard Boedijn

Gerardus Hendrik Boedijn (born November 19, 1893 in Hoorn ; † September 23, 1972 ibid) was a Dutch composer who made great contributions to the creation of authentic wind orchestra literature. Under the pseudonym Jack Harvey , he publishes works that are technically easier to play.

Gerard Boedijn received lessons for violin , percussion , wind instruments and piano at the municipal music school of his birthplace very early on . He graduated from the Amsterdam Conservatory , where he studied violin, music theory, composition and choral conducting. From 1914 to 1917 he was a teacher at the Maastricht Music School . He then lived in Hoorn and worked as a teacher, freelance composer and conductor of choirs and orchestras. From 1927 to 1933 he was director of the Veendam Music School . After that he lived in Hoorn again. He led numerous orchestras and choirs; especially with the Nederlands Koperorkest he became very well known. In 1959 he was chosen by the Queen as a Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau ( Ridder in de Orde van Oranje Nassau ).

He composed various works for wind orchestra and made a name for himself for creating authentic literature.
