Gerd-Ulrich Herrmann

Gerd-Ulrich Herrmann (* 1950 in Bernburg (Saale) ) is a German officer in the NVA or Bundeswehr , social scientist and military writer. From 2002 to 2015 he was director of the Seelower Heights Memorial .

Life

Herrmann, a graduate social scientist , attended the "Friedrich Engels" military academy in Dresden. From 1970 to 1990 he served in the National People's Army (NVA), most recently as a lieutenant colonel , then until 1992 he was a member of the Bundeswehr with the rank of major .

From 2002 to 2015 he was director of the Seelow Heights Memorial in Seelow. From 2007 to 2014 he was managing director of the non-profit Kultur GmbH Märkisch-Oderland . Since 2015 he has been working as a speaker and tour guide on various historical topics.

Herrmann is also the author of several books and articles focusing on military actions in 1945 on both sides of the Oder.
