Gerd Brachmann (* 1959 in Bochum ) is a German entrepreneur . He was the founder and is currently chairman of the board of the electronics company Medion AG . In 2004 he owned seven video stores in the Ruhr area .

life and work

After graduating from high school, Brachmann completed an apprenticeship as a radio and television technician , then also as a foreign trade clerk . He has been working as an independent businessman since 1979. At the beginning he ran a shop for television, video and computer games in Essen-Überruhr . In 1983 he founded the "Brachmann & Linnemann OHG " together with Helmut Linnemann in Essen . At the beginning of June 2011 it was announced that the Chinese electronics company Lenovo wanted to take over Medion for a total of 629 million euros. The shareholders were offered EUR 13 per share in cash. The previous majority shareholder, CEO Gerd Brachmann, made use of the offer for the most part. He sold 17.75 million shares (which corresponds to 36.66 percent of the total shares) for around 230.7 million euros.

Brachmann is considered to be public shy. Little is known about his private life, and he refuses to take portraits. For example, at general shareholders' meetings he only enters the hall after the last photographer has left him.
