Gerd Depenbrock

Gerd Depenbrock (born March 13, 1949 in Oberhausen ) is a German journalist. From 1973 to 2012 he worked as a radio editor and presenter for Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR) in Cologne, Bonn and Berlin and was one of the station's prominent voices.

biography

After studying German and geography (state examination), Gerd Depenbrock did his doctorate in journalism and communication science at the Ruhr University Bochum with a thesis on "Journalism, Science and University". phil. At Westdeutscher Rundfunk, Gerd Depenbrock began in 1973 as an editor in the radio department of the popular program Das Mittagsmagazin . He later moderated the programs Between Rhine and Weser and Das Mittagsmagazin . In 1983 Gerd Depenbrock moved to the Bonn radio studio as political correspondent for WDR, and in 1989 he became head of the service and deputy studio manager. In 1998 Gerd Depenbrock became head of the WDR radio studios in Bonn (until 2002) and Berlin (until 2012). Gerd Depenbrock was honored for his reporting in the field of energy and environmental policy. He is also the author of various scientific publications and journalistic articles in newspapers and specialist journals. From 2004 to 2019 Gerd Depenbrock was chairman of the German Press Club e. V. He has been a board member and treasurer since 2019.
