Gerd Jüttemann (born December 7, 1933 ) is a German psychologist . He is the founder of the qualitative research method " comparative casuistry " used in the social sciences .

Life

Jüttemann studied psychology at the Universities of Cologne , Bonn , Innsbruck and Kiel . In 1974 he was appointed professor at the Technical University of Berlin . Here he mainly taught the subjects of personality psychology , clinical psychology , psychodiagnostics and methodology .

Jüttemann's work focuses on autogenesis and biography research , historical psychology, personality psychology as well as qualitative research methods (including comparative case studies). He does not see psychology primarily as a natural science, but above all as a human science. With reference to Wilhelm Wundt , he emphasizes "that a psychology that hides the content-related side of the soul and restricts itself to the quantitative investigation of functional relationships must remain an incomplete and imperfect psychology because it evades its most important subjects". Jüttemann is co-editor of the journals Journal for Psychology and "Psychology and History" as well as the book series "Philosophy and Psychology in Dialog" and "Psychology and Profession" (both series by Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht ). He is also a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Forum Qualitative Social Research [FQS].
