Gerd Kommer

Gerd Kommer (* 1962 ) is a German investment banker and author . He wrote the bestseller Sovereign Investing with Index Funds and ETFs and developed the Kommersche Weltportfolio .

biography

From 1983 to 1989 Kommer studied political science, economics and communication science in an MA ( Magister Artium ) at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . Before continuing his studies, he worked as an analyst at TCM Management Consulting GmbH in Munich for 1.5 years. This was followed by a Master of Business Administration (1991-1993) at Vanderbilt University in Nashville , Tennessee (USA), in which Kommer chose finance and accounting.

From 1993 to 2006 he worked as a department head and corporate customer advisor for what was then Bayerische Vereinsbank AG, now Hypovereinsbank . He worked for three years as a corporate account manager in Halle / Dessau, Saxony-Anhalt, for a total of six years as a department head in Munich and for another four years as the head of the HVB representative office in Johannesburg (South Africa).

In the following seven years (2006–2013) Kommer was not only director and co-branch manager of Deutsche Pfandbriefbank AG in London, but also received his doctorate in economics from the University of Erfurt in 2011 .

From 2013 to 2016 he worked at FMS Wertmanagement Service GmbH in London as a branch manager and also completed an LL.M. in 2015. (Master of Laws) in International Tax Law at the University of Liechtenstein .

In 2017, Gerd Kommer Invest GmbH was founded in Munich, in which he is a managing partner and employs five other people. The company also has an advisory board consisting of two people. The company sees itself as an independent asset manager and financial advisor for wealthy private clients and pursues the scientifically proven investment approach of "passive investing". The trade magazine Elite Report of the Handelsblatt awarded the GmbH in the Elite Report 2019 with the grade "magna cum laude" for asset managers in German-speaking countries, for which at least 600 of 770 points from 42 categories were required.

In 2020 he founded Gerd Kommer Capital, a robo advisor whose website went live in early July and will offer digital asset management in October.

Books

One of Kommer's nine books published to date is sovereign investing with index funds and ETFs: How private investors win the game against the financial sector, the most successful from 2002 with over 100,000 copies sold. It has already been reissued five times (most recently in March 2018) to include innovations. It also won the German Finance Book Prize in 2016.
