Gerd Krüssmann

Johann Gerd Krüssmann (born April 24, 1910 in Dinslaken , † June 5, 1980 in Bad Salzuflen ) was a German dendrologist , horticultural teacher and author of many specialist books. Its botanical author's abbreviation is “ Krüssm. "

Life

Krüssmann had been working as a dendrologist since 1935, from 1946 owner of a gardening business and part-time horticultural teacher at the horticultural vocational school in Wesel and the district vocational school in Dinslaken.

From 1947 he headed the Botanical Garden Rombergpark in Dortmund, where he brought together the largest collection of ornamental trees in all of Europe. As a result, the Rombergpark achieved international renown.

Krüssmann was the founder of the International Dendrological Union , which later became the International Dendrology Society . The Technical University of Hanover awarded him an honorary doctorate in 1975 . After him, a female columnar ginkgo biloba Dr. Gerd Krüssmann named.
