Gerd Wolf (singer)

Gerd Wolf (born April 18, 1940 in Flöha ; † April 28, 2019 in Dresden ) was a German opera singer (bass).

Life

Gerd Wolf first studied with Frieder Trommler and made his debut in 1970 as a hermit in Der Freischütz by Carl Maria von Weber . In 1973, after studying at the Hanns Eisler University of Music in Berlin, he passed the state examination as a soloist. From 1984 to 2010 he was a member of the ensemble of the Berlin State Opera . He was particularly successful as a bass buffo , for example in Zar und Zimmermann , as Falstaff in The Merry Wives of Windsor and as Bartolo in the Barber of Seville . The Kammersänger appeared with the Berlin State Opera in numerous guest performances abroad and in 1995 at the Salzburg Festival .
