Gerhard Böhmer (teacher)

Gerhard Böhmer (born July 15, 1895 in Teterow ; † December 4, 1978 in Warendorf ) was a teacher and writer .

After studying philology and geography in Göttingen and receiving his doctorate as Dr. phil. with a thesis on “The river density in the area of ​​the Mecklenburg Lake District and its foothills”, Böhmer worked as a teacher at the John Brinckman High School in Güstrow and at the High School in Teterow. From 1956 until his retirement, Böhmer worked as a teacher at the high school in Warendorf.

In 1966 Böhmer published his “Rahnstädter Billerbauk”, in which he described the way of life and thinking of the citizens of a small Mecklenburg town before the First World War with observation, empathy and humor. Böhmer put an important collection of documents on Mecklenburg history and cultural history in Warendorf. In addition to many other publications, this resulted in his book "Mecklenburger im Rheinland und Westfalen" (1968).

Böhmer took part in the work of the "East German Research Center of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia". In 1960 he received the Fritz Reuter Medal and in 1974 the Mecklenburg Culture Prize of the Mecklenburg Landsmannschaft .
