Gerhard Beetz

Gerhard Beetz (born September 28, 1918 in Mühlhausen / Thuringia ; † October 30, 2005 in Bensheim ) was General Secretary of the Evangelical Federation and the first managing director of the denominational institute in Bensheim.

Life

Born as the son of a headmaster in Mühlhausen in the Prussian province of Saxony , he advanced to lieutenant colonel in the general staff during World War II and studied German, English and Romance studies after the war. His first marriage to Hildegard Gertrud Burkhardt was divorced after four years (1947).

With the establishment of the denominational institute in Bensheim in 1947, Gerhard Beetz began his service there as one of initially two, later up to twenty employees. From the first hectographed distribution publications of the post-war period, several book series and magazines grew in the following decades, which he had a lasting influence as editor and publisher, including the renowned pocket book series “ Bensheimer Hefte ”.

Gerhard Beetz gained a great reputation as chairman of the church council of the Evangelical Stephanus community in Bensheim, as president of the deanery synod of the deanery Zwingenberg (today: Bergstrasse-Mitte), as a member of the church synod of the EKHN and deputy member of the EKD synod as well as in numerous other bodies and commissions .
