Gerhard Brinkmann (economist)

Gerhard Brinkmann (born December 1, 1935 - † October 5, 2015 in Cologne ) was a German economist and emeritus professor of economics at the University of Siegen .

Career

After attending elementary school and the Marianum grammar school in Warburg (Westphalia) from 1942 to 1955, Brinkmann passed his Abitur in 1955. From 1957 to 1960 Brinkmann studied philosophy at the Philosophical University Berchmanskolleg in Pullach near Munich and graduated in 1960 with a licentiate in philosophy. From 1960 to 1967 Brinkmann studied economics at the University of Frankfurt and the University of Cologne . In 1964 he obtained his degree in business administration (University of Cologne), and in 1967 he was awarded a Dr. rer. pole. PhD . 1970 followed the habilitation for economic political science at the University of Cologne.

From 1966 to 1971 Brinkmann was research assistant at the research center for empirical social economics, of which he was managing director in 1968 and 1969, and assistant at the seminar for finance at the University of Cologne. From 1970 to 1973 Brinkmann was a private lecturer at the University of Cologne, with a stay as a research associate at the University of California, Berkeley in 1971. During his time as an assistant at the University of Cologne, Brinkmann was spokesman for the assistant in the economic sector from 1968 to 1969 - and social science faculty and from 1972 to 1973 deputy spokesman for the non-ordinaries in the Senate of the University of Cologne.

In 1973 Brinkmann was appointed full professor for economics at the University of Siegen and retired there at the end of February 2001 . During his time in Siegen, Brinkmann was a member of the Research Institute for Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Siegen from 1977 to 1983. From 1977 to 1978 he was vice dean and member of the faculty council “Economics” and from 1978 to 1979 dean . From 1980 to 1981 Brinkmann was the managing director of the Research Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Siegen.

Grave: Melaten cemetery

Brinkmann's work and research focus were labor economics , educational economics and the scientific theory of economics .

Brinkmann was married and had two children.

His grave is in the Melaten cemetery in Cologne (hall 31).

Trivia

Brinkmann was a member of the Society of Jesus from 1955 to 1960 .
