Gerhard Ecker (politician)

Gerhard Ecker (born August 4, 1957 in Augsburg ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and an expert on municipal finances. He has been Lord Mayor of Lindau in Bavaria since 2012 .

Career

After training as an industrial manager Gerhard Ecker fame in 1978 on the second-chance education a high school, giving him a degree in law enabled with a focus on business and finance. In 1992 he received his doctorate. As a city councilor, Ecker then held several offices in the city administration of Augsburg , including being responsible for the city's finances ( treasurer ) as well as personnel and sports. He was also a member of the board of directors at FC Augsburg from 2006 to 2012 . Ecker is regarded as a specialist in municipal finances; Since 1990 he has been an expert in municipal finances in the Bavarian Ministry of the Interior , and he has also edited specialist publications.

On February 26, 2012, he was elected Lord Mayor of the large district town of Lindau. As a joint candidate for the SPD, Free Voters and ÖDP , he won with 60.3 percent of the votes against Klaus Tappeser , who ran for the CSU and got 39.7 percent of the votes. Gerhard Ecker took office on April 1, 2012. On January 21, 2018, he was elected for a further six years from two candidates in the first ballot with 55.1 percent of the vote. On April 30th, after eight years, he will terminate his term of office prematurely. a. to make a simultaneous city council and mayor election possible.

Ecker has been married to Ulrike Ecker, a master goldsmith, since 1978; he has two children with her.
