Gerhard F. Hummel
Gerhard Fritz Hummel , pseudonym Piet ter Ulen , (born April 16, 1921 in Reutlingen ; † February 18, 2008 in Cologne ) was a German film production manager , dramaturge and screenwriter .
Life
Since the mid-1950s, Hummel worked as a program consultant for Constantin Film . Hummel, called "GFH", tied stars like Freddy Quinn and Peter Alexander to the Constantin and turned his attention to the filming of so-called trivial literature . On April 1, 1959, Constantin boss Waldfried Barthel appointed him the new deputy managing director.
As early as 1955, he proposed a pilot for Edgar Wallace's crime novels . The project could not be implemented until 1959. In the preparation phase of the first film The Frog with the Mask , Hummel was given sole responsibility for all production matters.
Hummel had a decisive influence on the sequence and design of the Edgar Wallace films of Rialto Film . Until 1963 he engaged the writers, directors and actors and took over the script editing. Under the pseudonym "Piet ter Ulen" he was sometimes mentioned as a co-screenwriter.
The film adaptation of Karl May's novels , beginning with Der Schatz im Silbersee , is also largely due to Hummel's initiative.
At the end of 1963, Hummel left Constantin and went to WDR as head of production . He worked as a media consultant at times exclusively for the company TaurusFilm of Leo Kirch , but advised to continue Constantin.
