Gerhard Günther (theologian)

Max Hermann Rudolf Gerhard Günther (born September 29, 1889 in Blaubeuren , † December 8, 1976 in Hamburg ) was a German theologian. The son of the writer Agnes Günther was head of the Evangelical Academy in Hamburg for many years .

Life

Günther was born in Blaubeuren . His father Rudolf Günther was a deacon at the time. He later moved to Langenburg , where he was pastor and dean (1891–1907), and then as professor to Marburg . Grandfather Rudolf Friedrich Günther had already been the city pastor in Stuttgart. The mother came from a banking family from Stuttgart. The aunts were married to Friedrich Zeller and Johannes Lepsius , respectively . After finishing school, Günther studied temporarily in Marburg.

family

The brother Erich Günther (* 1893) was a military scientist and editor of the magazine "Deutsches Volkstum". The son, Valentin Günther (1923–1944) died in 1944 in World War II .
