Gerhard Grimpe

Gerhard Grimpe (* 1928 in Berlin ; † June 9, 1985 in Stade ) was a German music teacher , choir director , orchestra conductor and composer .

biography

As a young man, Grimpe was promoted by Gottfried Wolters , the head of the North German Singing Circle in Hamburg at the time , who recognized Grimpe's musical talent. Grimpe studied school music with the subjects composition and violin . During this time he was entrusted with the management of radio and recordings for the North German Singing Circle. His compositional oeuvre is remarkable and can be found in many music school books. It focuses on the composition of songs, canons and other classical choral movements that are still part of the standard repertoire of many choirs today.

After his marriage to the landowner's daughter Inge von den Bergen, he lived with her on the farm next to Agathenburg Castle near Stade and initially devoted himself to running the farm for several years. In 1974 he resumed teaching full time and became a music teacher at the Vincent-Lübeck-Gymnasium in Stad . He was also director of the Stader Chamber Orchestra from 1978 until his death. Orchestra trips took him to the Scandinavian countries. From 1983 until his death, he was also a lecturer for practical school improvisations at the Cologne University of Music .
