Gerhard Hanke (born August 28, 1951 in Treis-Karden ) is a German forester, local politician and publicist. After completing his doctorate, Hanke worked in the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry of the Environment, became head of the Bingen Forestry Office and then head of the Rheinhessen Forestry Office in Alzey for many years . As a local politician, he was mayor of Waldalgesheim for over 20 years and was politically active in various positions in the Mainz-Bingen district . In addition, he has been "successful as an author of books" for years.

Life

Hanke, whose father and grandfather were already foresters, studied forest sciences in Freiburg and Vienna, completed his legal clerkship in Trier, and did his doctorate on reforestation. His professional achievements as head of the forestry department included u. a. the early "introduction of burial forests" and the special "support for forest kindergartens", he brought "forest youth games on the way". In the poorly forested Rheinhessen, he campaigned for reforestation and taught ecological silviculture at the TH Bingen . Hanke publishes regularly on forest issues and regional topics. His most important journalistic works are his book on "Forest and Forest Stories from Rheinhessen" (2016) and a historical photo book on Waldalgesheim (2014 - together with Heinrich Sinz). Since his retirement in 2016, in addition to his journalistic activities, he has been involved in environmental and municipal projects, such as B. the planned renaturation of the Rhine-Hessian Haybach .
