Gerhard Hoffmann (SS member)

Gerhard Karl Theodor Hoffmann , called Gerhard Hoffmann (born January 21, 1908 in Konitz ; † 1996 ), was a German lawyer and SS leader.

Life

Hoffmann, the son of an administrative assistant, studied economics and law after graduating from high school in 1927 at the University of Berlin and the University of Breslau . Hoffmann completed his studies in 1933 with the first state examination in law. After his clerkship, he passed the second state examination in 1937. In the same year his doctorate he became Dr. jur. Even during his studies, Hoffmann worked as an employee at the trademark protection association.

At the beginning of November 1933, Hoffmann joined the SS (SS no. 219.440). In the SS, Hoffmann rose to SS-Hauptsturmführer in the reserve of the Waffen-SS in April 1944 . At the beginning of May 1937 Hoffmann joined the NSDAP ( membership number 4.577.302). He was also a member of the NSV and NSRB .

After the outbreak of World War II in September 1939, Hoffmann was drafted into the SS army. After a course to become an SS leader at the SS Junker School in Tölz, Hoffmann was transferred to the newly established SS Economic and Administrative Main Office (SS-WVHA) in early February 1942 . There he worked in the WI office (stones and earths [Reich]) and later in the legal department of staff W in the WVHA. From January 1943 to mid-April 1943, Hoffmann completed an administration course at the SS administration school in Dachau . After that, Hoffmann was employed again in the WVHA, where he was initially an employee of the Legal Department in Staff W. From 1944 onwards, Hoffmann headed the legal department in Staff W of the WVHA. Hoffmann became Oswald Pohl's personal advisor in March 1945 and succeeded Leo Volk in this position .

After the end of the war, Hoffmann was denazified and then probably worked as a lawyer.
