Gerhard Jelinek (lawyer)

Gerhard Jelinek (born October 29, 1956 ) is an Austrian judge . Since January 1, 2015 he has been President of the Higher Regional Court in Vienna .

Career

Jelinek has worked as a judge in Vienna since 1984 , first at the District Court of Inner City Vienna , then at the District Court of Donaustadt . Since July 1, 1995, he has been a judge at the Higher Regional Court of Vienna, of which he was vice-president from March 2008 until his appointment as president. Jelinek has specialized in commercial law and has headed a senate for insolvency matters since 2006.

In spring 2018, Jelinek, together with the presidents of the other three higher regional courts, criticized the budgetary and personnel savings planned by the Federal Government Kurz I in the judiciary and feared “serious damage” to the Austrian judiciary and the rule of law.

Private

Jelinek is married. He has three children and three grandchildren.
