Gerhard Ruf

Gerhard Ruf (born Helmut Eugen Joseph reputation , * 17th October 1927 in Kaiserslautern ; † 29. December 2008 in Assisi ) was a monk of the Franciscan Friars Minor -Provinz St. Elisabeth .

Life

Gerhard Ruf was born in 1927 as the son of Eugen and Augusta Ruf, b. Stockmeyer was born. He attended elementary school and high school in his hometown. At the age of 17 he had to go to war in Russia, where he was imprisoned for 6 months. Back at home, he joined the Franciscans in 1947. He finished his philosophical and theological studies at the University of Friborg, Switzerland. On September 8, 1951, he made his perpetual vows and on July 18, 1953, he was ordained priest in Würzburg by Julius Döpfner .

Between 1954 and 1956 he was in the Maria Eck convent on the Chiemsee, and in the next few years as a chaplain in Reisbach / Lower Bavaria. He worked as a preacher in Würzburg. On July 18, 1959, he was sent to Italy as a pastor for the German-speaking pilgrims in the Basilica of San Francesco .

He was a great connoisseur of art, author of numerous books on the frescoes and stained glass windows of the St. Francis Basilica, specialist in Giotto and Cimabue , photographer and founder of the photo archive of the basilica and the convent of St. Francis.
