Gerhard Sörgel (* 24. July 1935 in Leipzig ) is a German mechanical engineer and emeritus professor .

Life

Sörgel attended the Thomas School in Leipzig until 1953 and then studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Dresden until 1959 . From 1959 he worked in the research and testing institute for fluid flow machines in Dresden and from 1961 to 1992 he worked as an assistant or senior assistant at the Institute for Thermodynamics. He received his doctorate in 1967 in Dresden on the subject of investigations on the vaneless and bladed diffuser of a radial fan stage . In 1980 the doctorate B followed , which was converted to a habilitation in 1991 . From 1992 Sörgel was professor for steam and gas turbines at the Institute for Energy Machines and Machine Laboratory. From 1997 until his retirement in 2000 he was also Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering; his professorship was renamed “Professorship for Thermal Energy Machines and Systems” in 2000.
