Gerhard Schwinge

Gerhard Schwinge (born September 4, 1934 in Berlin ) is a German church historian and academic librarian .

Life

Schwinge studied Protestant theology in Hamburg, Heidelberg and Göttingen from 1955 to 1959 . From 1959 to 1970 he was vicar and pastor in the ev.-luth. Church in Oldenburg and military pastor. After the state training for the higher academic library service in Göttingen and Cologne (assessor examination), he was head of the regional church library of the Evangelical Church in Baden from 1972 to 1996 (church library director) and from 1989 to 1996 managing director of the Association for Church History in the Evangelical Church in Baden . He has since retired.

He received his doctorate in 1993 from the University of Mainz on Johann Heinrich Jung-Stilling . He published numerous independent and dependent publications on theological bibliography and terminology, on Jung-Stilling and the Baden church and regional history of the 19th and 20th centuries.

Schwinge has been married since 1960.
