Gerhard Seifried

Gerhard Seifried (* 1961 in Wolfsberg , Carinthia ) is a communications expert, media trainer and former mayor .

Life

Seifried attended the Stiftsgymnasium St. Paul , studied journalism and art history at the University of Vienna and received his doctorate there.

He has been a journalist since 1986. At first he was editor of the “Kärntner Tageszeitung”. After a short intermezzo as a press officer for the SPÖ Carinthia, he worked as a freelance journalist and from 1990 reported for ORF on the disintegration of Yugoslavia . Gerhard Seifried and his TV team delivered the first images of the war in Slovenia to Austria and reported from the theaters of war in ex-Yugoslavia. From 1992 Seifried was a member of the Zeit im Bild international editorial team. Numerous reports from Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Serbia followed.

From 1993 to 1995 Seifried was an ORF correspondent in Bonn, after his return a satellite reporter for “ Willkommen Österreich ” and until 1998 worked for the ORF regional studio in Carinthia.

In 2011, after resigning as mayor of Wolfsberg, Seifried switched to the management of a health consulting company. In 2014 he founded his own company gsc * gerhard seifried communications and started his own business as a communications expert and media trainer.

politics

In 1998 Seifried was elected mayor of Wolfsberg as a candidate of the SPÖ , and in 2003 he was re-elected. He presented an intensive cooperation with the state FPÖ under the chairmanship of Haider two months before the state elections in 2004 and was characterized by repeated criticism from within the party. Despite losing votes, he was directly elected mayor for the third time on March 1, 2009. On April 1, 2011, he resigned as mayor.
