The garlic rocket-leaved bellflower ( Campanula alliariifolia ) is a species of bellflower ( Campanula ) in the bellflower family (Campanulaceae).

features

The garlic rocket-leaved bellflower is an evergreen, perennial, herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 40 to 60 (70) centimeters. The species forms a Pleiokorm turnip. The leaves are broadly heart-shaped, their underside is hairy gray-white tomentose. The lower leaves are long stalked. The flowers are arranged in a loose, one-sided cluster . The crown is creamy white, inside it is not dotted.

The flowering period extends from June to July.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 34.

Occurrence

The garlic rocket-leaved bellflower occurs in the Caucasus , Transcaucasia and Northeast Turkey on cliffs in mountain forests and limestone bands at altitudes of 300 to 1830 meters. The species has become feral in Western and Central Europe.

Systematics

One can distinguish between two subspecies:

  • Campanula alliariifolia Willd. subsp. alliariifolia (Syn .: Campanula kirpicznikovii Fed. , Campanula leskovii Fed. , Campanula makaschvilii E.A.Busch ): It occurs from the northern Turkey to the Caucasus region.
  • Campanula alliariifolia subsp. letschchumensis (Kem.-Nath.) Ogan. (Syn .: Campanula letschchumensis Kem.-Nath. ): It occurs only in western Transcaucasia.

use

The garlic rocket-leaved bellflower is used as an ornamental plant for rock gardens and shrub borders and as a cut flower. It has been in culture since 1803 at the latest.
