Gerhard Settelmeyer (born July 5, 1940 in Weingarten (Palatinate) ) is a former German football player and coach . He reached the DFB Cup final with 1. FC Kaiserslautern in 1961.

Career

Gerhard Settelmeyer began his football career in the mid-1950s in his hometown, at SV Weingarten . First he played in the A youth team and then, at the age of 17, he joined the first team, which competed in the B class.

After he was noticed by a former board member of 1. FC Kaiserslautern , he was invited to a trial training session at FCK in May 1959. There, the coach of the "Red Devils", Richard Schneider , certified that he was talented and Settelmeyer switched to FCK in July 1959. Until the end of high school he played in the reserve team and from June 1960 he was active in the league team.

By 1963 he was in 76 league games (26 goals) for 1. FC Kaiserslautern on the ball. In 1961/62 he was FCK's internal top scorer with 15 goals. A highlight of his career was reaching the DFB Cup final in 1961 , which however was lost 2-0 to SV Werder Bremen . Settelmeyer was on the starting line-up in this game and previously ensured that FCK reached the final with a goal in the preliminary round against Heider SV . In 1963 he took part in the finals for the German championship with the FCK as Southwest Champion.

In 1963, when the Bundesliga was introduced, he decided against a career as a professional footballer and practiced the profession of teacher.

So he moved to the 2nd amateur league for SV Viktoria Herxheim . There he was active for three years as a player-coach and two years as a player. In 1968 he went to FC Viktoria Neupotz as a player- coach , which also competed in the second amateur league. After the first season with Settelmeyer as coach, the club rose to the 1st amateur league and was able to assert itself there (11th and 8th place in the table). In 1971 he went to ASV Harthausen (district league), but returned after one season to FC Neupotz, who had been relegated to the district league in 71/72. Some pillars of the team had left the club and the promotion was no longer successful. 1976/77 Settelmeyer was exclusively active as a player at Neupotz.

In 1976 he accepted an offer from SV Olympia Rheinzabern . He worked here for a total of 13 years, the first four years as a player-coach and nine years as a coach. In 1978 they were promoted to the newly founded association league and stayed in this league until 1989. After that, Settelmeyer's activity in Rheinzabern also ended. In 1989/90 he trained again for SV Viktoria Herxheim and then ended his career in football.
