Gerhard Sporken

Gerhard Sporken (* 1960 in Eupen ) is a Belgian composer and conductor .

Live and act

Gerhard Sporken began his studies at the Royal Conservatory of Liège with Henri Pousseur . Furthermore, Sporken worked with Frederic Rzewski , Philippe Boesmans and Patrick Lenfant . He learned orchestral conducting with Julius Kalmar in Vienna. From 1983 to 2000 he was professor for sheet music, contemporary music and music theory at the Liège Conservatory, since 2000 he has taught choral conducting and singing there. He has also been teaching at the Music Academy of the German-speaking Community of Belgium since 1980 . From 1991 to 1995 he was head of the choir and orchestral conducting class at the Conservatory of Luxembourg City .

His compositional work is largely determined by electronic music . As a conductor, he has worked with well-known orchestras such as the Belgian National Orchestra , the Orchester Philharmonique Royal de Liège , the Orchester du Grand Théâtre from Reims and the choir and orchestra of the Opéra de Wallonie . From 2004 to the end of 2018 Sporken was head of the Kgl. Harmony Hergenrath .
