Michael of Greece

Michael of Greece (born January 7, 1939 in Rome , Italy ) is the only child of the Greek Prince Christoph of Greece and his second wife Princess Françoise Isabelle Louise Marie of Orléans .

Life

Michael of Greece and Denmark was born in Rome on January 7, 1939. He is the grandson of the Greek King George I and Olga Konstantinowna Romanowa and a cousin of the British Prince Consort Prince Philip . His father Christoph of Greece died a year after his birth. He grew up in Spain and France before studying economics in Paris . He then did his military service in Greece and retired with the rank of third lieutenant from the service.

On July 17, 1965, he married the Greek artist Marina Karella , the daughter of the middle-class couple Theodore Karellas and Elly Chalikiopoulos. Because of this morganatic marriage , Michael of Greece renounced the succession to the Greek throne for himself and his future descendants. They have two daughters together:

  • Alexandra of Greece (* 1968)
  • Olga of Greece (* 1971) married to Aimone of Savoy-Aosta, the son of Amadeus of Savoy

He lives in Paris. His knowledge of the royal families of Europe helped him with his books on the subject. Among other things, he wrote biographies about relatives or about crown jewels. He also wrote novels.
