Gerhard Wilhelm (born May 27, 1918 in Stuttgart ; † May 10, 2009 in Grafenau (Württemberg) ) was a German choir director .

As a boy he sang in the choir of the Württemberg University of Music . He studied music in Stuttgart and Berlin and passed the academic music teacher examination in 1938 and the pianistic maturity examination in 1939. Then he took a course to become a conductor .

After the Second World War (from 1946) he took over the provisional direction of the Stuttgart Hymn Choirboys , to which he had belonged before the war. Later he finally gave up his dream of a career as a pianist and devoted himself entirely to the choir until his retirement in 1987. During the years of his activity, he gave the choir, which had been in existence since 1900 and was newly founded after the Second World War, its musical and pedagogical profile and led him to a remarkable level and to a reputation that extends beyond national borders. In addition to the musical quality, the social development of his protégés was always close to his heart, so that for many he became a real "hymn father".
