The Kaiser-Franz-Joseph-Landwehrkaserne was located in the 14th district of Vienna at Hütteldorfer Strasse 188. After that, the Baumgarten geriatric center was located there. Today the district council for the 14th Viennese district Penzing is located there.

history

Use as a Landwehr command

It was built as Kaiser-Franz-Josef-Landwehrkaserne in 1901 according to plans by the Vienna City Building Office with the participation of the architect Johann Nepomuk Scheiringer . Originally it housed, among other things, the Landwehr supplementary district command No. 1 and the staff of the kk Landwehr Infantry Regiment "Vienna" No. 1 .

Uses as a hospital and nursing home

In the interwar period, the city of Vienna itself used the complex as a malaria hospital between 1919 and 1923.

Under the City Councilor for Social and Health Care Doctor Julius Tandler , the conversion into the Baumgarten care home for 1,100 people followed in 1922.

During the Second World War , a military hospital attached to what was then the Rainer Hospital was housed here.

After the end of the war, the Red Army originally used the building complex and then the French occupying forces.

As early as 1946, thanks to the efforts of the previous manager, the facility was used again as a retirement home . In 1958 the Vienna City Council decided to adapt the Sankt Rochusspital adjoining the old people's home in Cumberlandstrasse 53 and use it as a hospital ward.

The opening as Sankt-Rochus-Heim by Mayor Franz Jonas took place on May 27, 1961.

In 1976 it was rededicated to a nursing home and in 2001 to a geriatric center.
