Germán Marín
Germán Marín (* 1934 in Santiago de Chile , Chile ; † December 29, 2019 there ) was a Chilean writer .
Live and act
Germán Marín first attended a military academy where Augusto Pinochet , who later became dictator of Chile, was his instructor.
Then he broke off his military training and went to study in Buenos Aires , where he studied communication sciences at the university there and met Jorge Luis Borges . After completing his studies, he returned to Chile, where he initially worked as a journalist for various newspapers that supported the government of Salvador Allende .
After the military coup in 1973 he first went to Mexico , where he continued to work as a journalist, and in 1976 he moved to Barcelona , where he also worked as a journalist. In 1992 he returned to Chile.
His first novel was published in 1973 and was burned by the military junta. In Mexico he also worked with Gabriel Garcia Marquez . He cultivated friendships with the poets Enrique Lihn and Matias Rivas .
The last years of his life were marked by illness; reading and writing became increasingly difficult for him. His last book was published in early December 2019, a volume with short stories.
At the end of 2019, Marín died in Santiago de Chile at the age of 85.
