German LNG Terminal

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The LNG terminal in Brunsbüttel is a project to build and operate an LNG terminal in Brunsbüttel .

The project is being carried out by German LNG Terminal GmbH , which was founded as a joint venture by the three companies Gasunie LNG Holding BV , Oiltanking GmbH and Vopak LNG Holding BV in 2018 .

Operational concept

The construction and operation of an LNG terminal for discharging are planned LNG tankers , storage, loading ships, the regasification, feeding into a natural gas network and the further transport in tank cars , tank cars on the rail and bunker ships . Construction Template: future / in 2 yearsis scheduled to begin in 2020 and operations are to begin in 2022 . The deadline for the operator's investment decision has now been extended by the Main Committee of the City of Brunsbüttel.

Location

Brunsbüttel is planned as the location, as the Elbe and the Kiel Canal are important waterways. The Baltic Sea , the Scandinavian and Baltic ports are easily accessible and especially Hamburg, the largest German port, is nearby. The Sava hazardous waste incineration plant is located in the immediate vicinity to the west of the planned construction site. The decommissioned nuclear power plant is directly adjacent to the east. To the north, beyond Kreisstrasse 75, the Chemcoast Park industrial area begins.

The citizens of the region were informed and involved early on. The German Environmental Aid Association has given an opinion in order, therefore, the Brunsbüttel site may not be realized. The Greens in Schleswig-Holstein reject a state grant for the project.

Economic concept

German LNG plans the terminal according to the operator model Build, Own, Operate . The company leases the capacity of its warehouse, but does not hold any ownership of the stored goods. Accordingly, it describes itself as an "independent operator". The fact that the operator has neither knowledge of nor influence on the origin of the LNG is described there as “open and non-discriminatory access”. On September 6, 2018, German LNG signed a preliminary “Heads of Agreement” contract with RWE Supply and Trading for an indefinite part of the terminal's total capacity. A preliminary agreement on capacities was also signed with the Swiss energy company Axpo in May 2019. The planned regasification capacity corresponds to the handling capacity, so that it is not necessary to sell the product in liquid form.

background

So far there is no terminal in Germany for LNG , as liquefied natural gas is shortened. For example, the LNG is brought to bunkering in tank trucks from Dutch or Belgian ports.
