Gernot Kahl

Gernot Kahl (* 1933 ; † 2000 ) was a German pianist and chamber musician .

He had held a professorship for piano and song accompaniment at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater since the winter of 1970 and received important awards at international music competitions in Munich , Bozen , Geneva and Vercelli .

He gave piano recitals, orchestral concerts, chamber music and song recitals in almost all European countries, in South America and the USA. His partners included prominent singers like Judith Beckmann , Kieth Engen , Gwyneth Jones , Tatiana Troyanos , Michaela Kaune and strings like Ulf Hoelscher , Hirofumi Fukai and Edith Peinemann .

Since 1970 Gernot Kahl has been teaching a class for piano and a class for song accompaniment. His piano students included u. a. Sebastian Knauer , Burkhard Kehring , Henning Lucius and Matthias Veit . His special love, however, was the interpretation of songs; The programs he designed showed great artistic competence in the composition of the songs and the coordination of the texts. Out of his lessons such important singers as Wilfried Jochens , Lutz-Michael Harder , Günter Binge , Maria Husmann , Ruth Maria Nikolai , Christiane Iven , Dorothee Fries and Michaela Kaune emerged.

His teachers were Rosl Schmid , Wladimir Horbowski , Edwin Fischer and Géza Anda .
