biography
Gerard Crosbie played in his school days in the band The Cinnamons , from which he derived his stage name Gerry Cinnamon. Before he appeared as a successful solo musician himself, he became known as the organizer of an "open stage" ( open mic ) in a Glasgower bar. From 2014 he made a name for himself locally with his own songs and live performances. The musician, who sings in a strong Scottish accent, also became known for his committed lyrics, e.g. B. Hope over Fear , which was used by the supporters of the Scottish independence referendum , and the socially critical Kampfire Vampire about childhood in Glasgow, his first commercial success. His performances became bigger, so he appeared several times at the Scottish music festival T in the Park and went on tour with Ocean Color Scene as a lead singer. In 2016 he was named Best Live Artist at the Scottish Alternative Music Awards .
He raised money from his fans for his first album release. The debut was called Erratic Cinematic and it was released in September 2017. It entered the Scottish regional charts at number 8, and reached its top position at position 3 a year and a half later. In the summer of 2018, it entered the UK charts , it came in at number 17 and also became a cross-country skier there with over a year and a half on the chart. It was awarded gold in summer 2019 . Two songs from it, Belter and Sometimes , also achieved gold status.
At the time, he released a new song called Canter that became a number one hit in Scotland. It was the first song for his second album The Bonny . Cinnamon took several months before it was released in April 2020. It rose to number 1 on the Scottish, British and Irish charts . Outside of the British Isles, it made the hit parade in Switzerland .
