Gerry Mikscha

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gerald "Gerry" Mikscha (born June 14, 1971 in Klagenfurt ) is a former political functionary of the FPÖ . From 1993 to 2000 he was Jörg Haider's private secretary and his closest colleague during this time. It was through him that Haider got to know Saif Gaddafi . He has been in hiding since 2004 and allegedly lives in Switzerland on Lake Geneva and in Paraguay .

Life

Mikscha attended the commercial academy in Klagenfurt. In the early 1990s he met Jörg Haider on a tennis court in Carinthia and soon afterwards became his friend and closest colleague. In 1993 Haider made him his private secretary. His predecessor in this function, Karl-Heinz Grasser , had just been promoted to General Secretary of the FPÖ. Mikscha always appeared at Haider's side in public, at press conferences, at party meetings, at events or at the marathon. He was attributed to Haider's Buberlpartie by political observers , but differed from the habitus of the others. Mikscha has been described as thoughtful, calm, and trustworthy. Andreas Mölzer called him "by far the most pleasant appearance in Jörg Haider's environment".

In addition to his work as private secretary, Mikscha visited the Imadec private university in Vienna, where he met Saif al-Islam al-Gaddafi, the son of the Libyan head of state Muammar al-Gaddafi , who also studied there in 1998 . He later introduced him to Haider, who then began a lively diplomacy with Libya. In May 1999, Haider and Mikscha, as well as the head of Hypo-Alpe-Adria-Bank , Wolfgang Kulterer , traveled to Libya and met Muammar al-Gaddafi there. Haider even appeared on Libyan television with an Arabic-language speech. Rumors later emerged that Muammar al-Gaddafi had given the three of them several million dollars as a party donation on this trip.

In the 1999 National Council elections , the FPÖ recorded strong votes. However, Jörg Haider had fallen out with some older companions during the election campaign and therefore made his private secretary Gerry Mikscha the federal manager of the FPÖ. However, when the coalition negotiations with the ÖVP turned out to be difficult, Haider suddenly resigned from all federal offices in February 2000 and went back to Carinthia. Mikscha also lost his position as FPÖ managing director.

At the same time Haider had also found a new private secretary, Franz Koloini , whereby Mikscha had fallen in favor of his political mentor. Nevertheless, he accompanied him on a trip to Libya in June 2000, in which a whole delegation of Carinthian businesspeople took part, including Wolfgang Kulterer again. The aim is said to have been to buy cheap oil for Carinthia. A personal meeting with Muammar al-Gaddafi did not take place on this trip.

After leaving politics, Mikscha worked briefly for the company Proofit M-Commerce, a subsidiary of the Internet provider YLine . In 2001, however, YLine became insolvent in a spectacular affair involving falsification of accounts and insider trading and had to stop its services. Numerous business people close to the FPÖ were also involved in this affair. Mikscha then tried himself as an entrepreneur and acted as “General Manager” of City Angels - Business Incubators, registered in Vaduz , Liechtenstein . Also registered in Vaduz was Ateia AG , which was assigned to him and which, among other things, sold sun creams, but was dissolved in 2003. Together with stock market guru Mike Lielacher , Mikscha was also involved in Challenger One Management und Consulting GmbH until 2004, which is now owned by Karl-Heinz Petritz, also a former member of the Buberlpartie.

Despite his resignation from politics, Mikscha occasionally reappeared at Haider's side, once after the collapse of the black-blue coalition in September 2002 and again during a joint trip to Libya in 2003. Mikscha did not take on a new political office . It is assumed, however, that Mikscha continued to take care of Haider's finances during this time.

Immersion

In 2004 there was sudden excitement in the FPÖ about Gerry Mikscha. Mikscha had disappeared; Various rumors circulated about the reason. It was suspected that there was a dispute with Haider about missing party funds that Mikscha had managed. He was accused of embezzling the money and using it to go abroad. This, however, let it be known that the money had been speculated by unfavorable investments on the London Stock Exchange.

In 2005 Mikscha acted from Switzerland as a consultant to a Saudi sheik who wanted to invest $ 500 million in Austria. The deal was supposed to be handled by Hypo-Alpe-Adria-Bank. The National Council member Peter Fichtenbauer acted as a lawyer for the project. However, when security concerns were voiced by the National Bank and the State Police , the deal fell through.

Mikscha then did not return to Austria, but officially stayed abroad. His whereabouts were initially assumed to be Switzerland, later Paraguay, where he is said to live on a spacious hacienda 70 kilometers north of Asunción. Jörg Haider had someone look for him and twice sent an emissary there to contact Mikscha, once in 2006 and a second time in 2008, shortly before Haider's last National Council election campaign . Mikscha sent a message both times: “ I don't want to say anything. The money is gone. Leave me alone. “He also refused to come back to Austria. Paraguay does not have an extradition treaty with the European Union .

Gerry Mikscha was never officially wanted by the judiciary, there is no warrant for his arrest. That is why he is said to have traveled incognito to Carinthia several times to visit his family. He was seen with a car with Swiss license plates from Geneva , which is why Switzerland is also his possible place of residence.
