Michael Lielacher

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Michael "Mike" Lielacher (born April 26, 1959 in Wiener Neustadt ) is an Austrian financial market expert. He was a celebrated stock market guru in Vienna in the early 1990s .

Education and youth

Michael Lielacher attended grammar school in Wiener Neustadt and, after completing basic military service, studied world trade at the Vienna University of Economics and Business , where he graduated in 1982 with a master's degree in social and economic sciences. During his student days he was involved with the JVP ( Young People's Party ) in Lower Austria .

Working life

Early years

After graduating, he completed a trainee program at the Girozentrale in Vienna and then worked in the securities department there. After the US hedge fund manager Jim Rogers "discovered" the Vienna Stock Exchange for international investors in 1985 and thus triggered a boom , Lielacher took advantage of the increasing euphoria and was able to establish himself as a securities dealer. He later moved to Erste Bank , where he was sometimes employed as head of securities. After a few inconsistencies and a fraud report, Lielacher left the bank in a dispute - but all criminal charges were dropped or refuted towards the end of the 1990s.

1990s

In 1991 he founded Vindobona Privatbank (VIP-Bank) together with several partners , where he was spokesman for the board. The bank was sold to Länderbank AG after only two years of existence . The VIP-Bank, under Lielacher's direction, was also involved in the issue of shares in the SK Rapid Wien football club . However, the Rapid share was only listed on the Vienna Stock Exchange for a short time and then disappeared from the list in April 1994.

In its first issue in 1991, the Austrian business magazine CASH FLOW dedicated the cover story to Lielacher and named him “Bull of the Year 1990”. In 1991 he was one of the main initiators involved in the creation of the Austrian Futures and Options Exchange (ÖTOB).

Towards the end of the decade, Michael Lielacher had close business relationships with the founder of the Internet company Y-Line, Werner Böhm.

During the 1990s, Lielacher lived mostly in London , where he ran a consulting firm specializing in Eastern Europe .

2000s

With the listed companies Bluebull , webfreetv.com Multimedia Dienstleistungs AG and the takeover of CLC AG for restructuring, Lielacher made a brief comeback on the stock exchanges at the beginning of the new millennium . From 2003, however, several Lielacher companies suffered serious economic problems at the same time - including CLC AG, which was indebted at the time of takeover, and its financial information portal Bluebull. The conglomerate, consisting largely of listed companies and private equity firms, finally collapsed after a series of bankruptcies.

In 2001 Lielacher acted at the then listed Admiral Sportwetten AG as deputy to the chairman of the supervisory board, Johannes Hahn , who later became Federal Minister for Science and Research and EU Commissioner for Regional Policy . In the same year he was also in discussion as an investor in the then insolvent retail chain Libro .

In September 2002 Lielacher announced that he wanted to apply for a license for an investment bank again - but the project failed.

After unsuccessful management board and supervisory board mandates at webfreetv.com - where he succeeded in appointing the less successful Rudolf Fußi as CEO of the company - Lielacher worked as a freelance consultant in the venture capital segment from 2006 , among other things in connection with various bond issues by webfreetv .com, as well as for projects with a focus on Southeast Europe . In the following years he concentrated on various activities in the Internet area.

Since June 2006 Lielacher blogs irregularly - and on various topics from the fields of economy and stock exchange - on the blog site "be24.at" of the branch service boerse-express.com.

In November 2008, Lielacher's book on the financial crisis was published , The Crisis Was Yesterday , which was well received by critics, but had a modest sales.

In autumn 2009 Lielacher made another attempt to establish himself as an investment banker and founded YMB GmbH (Your Merchant Bank) with partners in Vienna and Bratislava . So far, however, the company has not been granted a securities or banking license in Austria . As the Austrian financial and business magazine Format reported in its first issue in 2011, the company will not receive any of the required licenses in Slovakia either. According to the format, the reasons for this are the tightening of local (securities) laws.

At the end of 2009, the former stock market guru was counted among the 50 most important “stock market people” of 2009 by the online stock market medium DerBörsianer.com and reached 48th place in the ranking.

2010s

In 2010 Lielacher tried in vain to take over webfreetv.com Multimedia Dienstleistungs AG, which disappeared from the price list of the Vienna Stock Exchange on November 1, 2010 (after it had been accused of violating the disclosure requirements). The extraordinary general meeting also rejected the installation of his wife Elisabeth (who is or was the main creditor of the "4.75% option bond 2007-2010 of webfreeTV.com Multimedia Service Aktiengesellschaft") on the company's supervisory board, which was forced by Lielacher .

His attempt to take over the insolvent Austrian branch of Versandhandel Quelle GmbH also failed in the course of 2010. After the failure of the negotiations, both the trustees and the Upper Austrian Chamber of Labor sharply criticized Lielacher's actions. In the course of the negotiations, the seriousness of the plans to continue the company was seriously questioned.

In addition to his ambitions in the investment sector, "Mike" has been the managing director of the multimedia company commix.tv since 2009, which works closely with webfreetv.com.

In September 2010 it became known that the Vienna Public Prosecutor was investigating irregularities at webfreetv.com for grossly negligent impairment of creditors' interests, fraud and fraudulent crime against several active and former board members of the company - including Lielacher. On August 18, 2011, bankruptcy proceedings were opened against webfreetv.com Multimedia Dienstleistungs AG. According to a report by the Wiener Zeitung (which literally refers to Lielacher as a former "webfreetv-Zampano"), which refers to the AKV creditor protection association, the company is said to have accumulated debts of 2.166 million euros .

In the course of the audit meeting on October 12, 2011, it became known that the creditors had filed claims totaling around EUR 1.907 million. According to the trustee of the estate, the company is said to be "absolutely without assets". According to the spokesman for the Vienna Public Prosecutor's Office - according to the Wiener Zeitung in October 2011 - the pending investigation is still open.

In the spring of 2012, criminal proceedings finally began at the Vienna Regional Criminal Court - Lielacher was accused of negligent impairment of creditors' interests and of withholding employee contributions to social security. On the first day of the trial, Lielacher pleaded "not guilty". According to media reports, the trial was postponed until the end of May 2012.

Private

Lielacher - who is nicknamed "Bulle von Wien" due to his optimistic assessments of the world markets - is married, has two children and has been living officially in Monaco since 1999 . Both children are now also working in the financial sector.

Around the year 2000 he campaigned for the coalition of ÖVP / FPÖ and maintained close contacts to the network of the Freedom Party. Up to and including 2004 he had business ties with two former close employees of Jörg Haider - Karl-Heinz Petritz and Gerald Mikscha - (via Globalaudionet and Challenger One Management). Rumors that Lielacher was involved as a consultant in the FPÖ's financial management are denied by the latter.

In autumn 2000, Lielacher was named by Michael Schmid (then FPÖ), the short-term infrastructure minister, as a preferred candidate for the new appointment of the ÖBB supervisory board.

After the BZÖ was founded in 2005, Lielacher was in close contact with this party and the people involved.
