Gert Wiedmaier

Gert Wiedmaier (born May 2, 1961 in Stuttgart ) is a German visual artist who lives and works in Stuttgart. In the fields of photography, painting and printmaking, he combines various media and materials.

life and work

After beginning studies at the University of Stuttgart in 1982, Wiedmaier soon moved to the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart , where he studied from 1983 to 1991. From 1988 to 1991 he studied in the sculpture class of Jürgen Brodwolf (* 1932). Since 1985 his works have been shown in over 60 solo exhibitions and numerous group exhibitions in museums, art associations and other institutions throughout Germany as well as in Austria, Russia, Switzerland, Slovenia, South Korea, Hungary and the USA. He has been a member of the Künstlerbund Baden-Württemberg since 2011 (executive member since 2013). Since 2014 he has been a member of the art commission for art in building in the state of Baden-Württemberg.

In the run-up to his exhibition projects, Wiedmaier often develops extensive room, person or topic-specific groups of works in experimental processes. Photographs are manually processed on various image carriers and coated several times with layers (wax over photography, screen printing on felt, etc.). Due to the alienation and the resulting blurring, well-known places and unusual perspectives are perceived from new perspectives. Concretely markable topographies, architectures or figures dissolve in his picture cycles and spatial installations in favor of a general description of the state of the present.
