Gerta Springer (born October 5 in Saarburg / Lothringen before 1893, † November 23, 1960 in Munich ) was a German still life and landscape painter .

Life

Gerta Springer was the only child of Ludwig Springer and Henriette Springer, nee Gripehoven. She studied at the Munich Women's Academy , where she enrolled in January 1907. In 1913/14 she became a full member of the Munich female artists' association and was a member of the association's jury from 1914 to 1917. She was a student of Julius Seyler , Heinrich Knirr , Rudolf Nissl and Theodor Hummel .

In 1943 Gerta Springer moved to Törwang near Rosenheim, only in 1958 did she return to Munich due to old age and illness. In 1960 she died in Munich.

Gerta Springer's greatest achievement is the promotion of the career of her artist friend Paula Deppe, who is six years her junior . Thanks to Springer, Paula Deppe came into contact with the artist couple Karl Caspar and Maria Caspar-Filser and with the Munich New Secession artists' association. Even after Paula Deppe's (1886–1922) death, Gerta Springer worked tirelessly for posthumous recognition of those who died prematurely.
