Gertrud Maass

Gertrud Maaß (born October 30, 1919 in Bremen ; † 2004 ) was a Bremen politician ( SPD ) and a member of the Bremen citizenship .

Family, education and work

Maaß was the daughter of a worker and grew up with five brothers in Bremen. She completed an apprenticeship as a cook and worked in this profession until 1939 and then as an economic manager until 1944. In 1944 she married Gerd Maaß († 2000); both had two children and lived in Bremen - Walle until 1951 and then in Bremen - Hastedt . Afterwards she worked as a cook again and as a housewife, while her husband u. a. found work at Borgward and from 1951 as a caretaker. From 1953 she earned her living as a cleaner in schools. She was a member of the Schools Staff Council for wage earners . The couple lived in Rembertistift after 1977 .

politics

Party: She and her husband became members of the SPD as early as 1946 through their social democratic parental home. In the SPD local association Hastedt she took on various functions. She was later a member of the board of the SPD sub-district of Bremen. As a member of the Working Groups of Social Democratic Women (ARSP), she was also active on the board. In the SPD in the 1980s she spoke out against the quota regulation for women, convinced that women can make their political path without such regulations, "through their ability, their knowledge, [and] their will".

Citizenship: From 1955 to 1975 Maaß was a member of the Bremen citizenship for 20 years and was active in various deputations and committees of the citizenship. From 1955 to 1975 she was represented in the deputation for the welfare system (social deputation ). Here she was elected spokeswoman in 1963 as the successor to Anna Stiegler (SPD). Her work in the social deputation was a friendly bond with the Senator for Welfare and Mayor Annemarie Mevissen (SPD).

Union and memberships : Maaß was a member of the Public Services, Transport and Traffic Union (ÖTV). Here she successfully fought for the cleaning staff to remain in the public service . After 1977 she was on the board of the Rembertistift.
