The protected landscape component Stollenmundloch of the former Elend colliery with an area of ​​0.07  hectares is located southeast of Elkeringhausen in the urban area of Winterberg . The area was designated as a protected landscape component (LB) in 2008 when the Winterberg landscape plan was drawn up by the district council of the Hochsauerlandkreis . The LB is surrounded by the Winterberg nature reserve .

Area description

On the western slope of the Roth mountain ridge is the abandoned tunnel mouth of the former Elend ore mine . Behind the tunnel mouth hole follows an approx. 30 m long tunnel of the former ore mine. The unprofitable ore mining was stopped in 1914. The tunnel mouth hole has recently been secured and the history of the mine operation is explained on an information board. The tunnel has at least potential importance as winter quarters for various groups of animal species such as bats.
