The Lübeck history adventure space, also known as the Red Rooster construction playground, is a large construction and history playground in the Kücknitz district of Lübeck . Supervised by experts, children have built a small Viking village there with long houses, huts, stalls and stables. The children choose what they want to do for themselves. You can build tree houses or climbing castles, make fires or make bows there. They can also look after the herb garden or the goats, sheep or horses that roam freely in the village.
In archaeological courses such as "Stone Age Technology" or "Medieval Crafts", the children learn how to forge, work flint or construct a loom or chest. These courses are offered by the office for applied archeology "AGIL", which works closely with the construction playground.
In May 2007, the reconstruction of a stave church from 1170 from Norway began, with which a new construction phase around a medieval monastery complex was tackled. The wooden church of St. Nikolai was handed over to its destination on February 29, 2008 at a church service with the participation of the Lübeck bishop Bärbel Wartenberg-Potter .
The construction playground is intended to encourage creativity and independent action in children. A non-profit association operates the playground including educational support.

Playgrounds of this kind have been developing in Denmark since 1949 . In 1976 they found their way to Germany via England and the Scandinavian countries. So in 1976 in Berlin and 1979 in Lübeck - Buntekuh building playgrounds were set up. The construction playground Roter Hahn e. V. has existed since the summer of 1999. Since 2003, a long house dating back to the Viking Age has been built as an environmental and educational learning place with the inclusion of archeology. On December 20, 2006, the facility was awarded the international prize for experiential education.
Since the beginning of 2013, the construction playground has had a modern main building with a classroom, multi-purpose room and room for a kindergarten group.
