Geschwister-Scholl-Platz (Wuppertal)
The Geschwister-Scholl-Platz is an inner-city square in Wuppertal district Barmen .
Next to the Old Market and Johannes-Rau-Platz, the square is the third place in the Barmens pedestrian zone. In the post-war period it was renamed from Karlsplatz (also Carlsplatz) after the Scholl siblings .
topography
On the west side of the square is the Barmer Ruhmeshalle (House of Youth), built between 1897 and 1900 , which was severely damaged in the war. In 1958, the partially rebuilt Hall of Fame was reopened. At the northwest corner of the Hall of Fame is a bank building that goes all the way to the Werth pedestrian zone . In this corner there has been a Bismarck monument by Hugo Lederer since autumn 1921 , which was previously on the town hall forecourt (today Johannes-Rau-Platz). The monument, which was unveiled on the anniversary of the imperial proclamation of Versailles in 1871, had to change its location due to the new construction of the town hall . The western side is limited by a large clothing store. The square is open to the south, to Bundesstrasse 7 (B 7).
On the Werth, the outdoor catering of an ice cream parlor offers the opportunity to linger. And at city festivals and Christmas markets , the square is always the central point of such festivities.
