Society of Firemen (Basel)

EE Gesellschaft der Feuerschützen in Basel was founded jointly by the guilds in 1466.

She still maintains the historic shooting range at Schützenmatte , but is now shooting at the Lachmatt facility in Pratteln . In 2010 the society had around 340 members. It is the only corporation that accepts people without Basel citizenship .

From its founding until 1887, the city of Basel paid the best marksman a shawl for a pair of trousers every week. The custom of giving trousers continued after 1887.
