EE Zunft zum Goldenen Stern is a public corporation of the city of Basel and one of the numerous Basel craft guilds. It is the historical association of clippers , bathers , surgeons and surgeons , but is now open to all professions.

history

In the official ranking of the Basel guilds, first established in 1357 by the council garrison, the E. Guild for the Golden Star and Heaven are 13th. The corporation of bathers and shearers as well as painters, glaziers, saddlers and sporers originally formed a split guild. It is not known when it received its sanction from the bishop, since the foundation letter was lost in the earthquake of 1356 . In the still preserved deed of foundation of the E. Zunft zu Schneidern from 1260, it is mentioned that almost all craftsmen in the city were already organized in guilds. Accordingly, the time of the formation of the two corporations can be put in the middle of the 13th century and has been dated to 1260. In 1361 the mayor and council of the city of Basel confirmed the originally laid down guild regulations. It was pointed out that it was about the renewal of statutes, which the guild had from the beginning.

The name of the guild was originally professional, but it was replaced by the name of the guild house. The guild as a whole originally comprised very different craftsmen who jointly ran the 'zum Himmel' drinking room on Freie Strasse. This harmony did not last long. The shearers expanded their beard shearing and bloodletting activities to the higher-ranking profession of wound medicine. They separated from the painters, saddlers and spurs and in 1398 bought their own house “zum guldinen Sternen” (on the spot where “Pfauen” is today on Freie Strasse in Coop City), which gave the divided guild its name. They now had their own order and administration, but in terms of guilds they remained with the other divided guild of heaven. In 1841 the “ Nationalzeitung ” was founded in this house , and the property remained in the hands of the guild until 1889. The guild board then sold the house to a guild member, who shortly thereafter ordered the demolition. Since then, the guild has no longer had its own house, but has the right to stay in its guild room in the Steinenvorstadt due to a close friendship with the E. Guild zu Webern . Since then, the coat of arms of the golden star has been emblazoned on the facade and the guild board holds its meetings there.
