Honor societies
The three honorary societies in Kleinbasel were comparable in Kleinbasel to the guilds in Grossbasel when the two districts were not yet united. When they merged in 1392, the people of Kleinbasel were assigned to the guilds of Grossbasel, but kept their three honorary societies:
The honorary societies are still responsible for the Klein Basel Volksfest Vogel Gryff .
Suburban societies
The suburban societies emerged in the Greater Basel in the 15th century, when the building of the outer Basel city wall resulted in a large population growth in the previously hardly populated suburbs outside the old wall. All five suburbs have a society:
- Vorstadtgesellschaft zur Mägd (suburb of St. Johanns-Tor )
- Vorstadtgesellschaft zur Krähe (Vorstadt zum Spalentor )
- Suburban society to the Three Confederates (suburb to the Steinentor )
- Vorstadtgesellschaft zum Rupf (Vorstadt zum Aeschentor )
- Suburb of the high Dolder (suburb of the St. Alban-Tor )
Other corporations
In the formerly independent district of Kleinhüningen , after the incorporation into the city was completed in 1908, the Kleinhüningen Citizens' Corporation was established . It is comparable to the three Kleinbasel honorary societies.
The fire rifle society, founded jointly by the guilds, has existed since 1466. It used to be used to guard the town and still maintains the rifle house at Schützenmatte .
